former Premier League star Danny Drinkwater to build £5m dream mansion
Former Premier League star Danny Drinkwater, known for his time at Chelsea and Leicester City, is making headlines with his ambitious plan to build a dream mansion in the upscale area of Alderley Edge in Cheshire. The £5 million project has received official approval from the planning department and is set to be a luxurious seven-bedroom property.

The Georgian-style mansion will boast a range of amenities, including a pool, gym, private cinema, grand entrance hall, conservatory, reception room, dressing rooms, a lift, and seven bedrooms, each with its own en-suite dressing room. The property will be located on a seven-acre plot that was once used as a military site, housing ammunition and railway storage warehouses, with a disused railway line serving the area.

Despite facing criticism for being out of proportion and located in a green belt protection area, Drinkwater's plans for the mansion were eventually approved after modifications. One of the unique features of the revised plan is a 19x13 foot bat loft, specifically designed to provide a habitat for bats. The original proposal included an indoor pool, gym, and a four-car garage, which have now been replaced with two separate outbuildings. Other features like a cozy snug, wine cellar, morning and evening terraces, library, and office have been removed from the design.
Last year, Drinkwater shared photos on social media of himself working on-site, sweating it out in the construction process. Some online users mocked him for the endeavor, but Drinkwater defended his choice, stating that he enjoys working on-site and that it was his personal decision. This shows his determination and passion for the project, despite facing criticism from some quarters.
Drinkwater, who won the Premier League title with Leicester City in 2016, had a more challenging time at Chelsea, where he made only 23 appearances in four years and struggled to secure a regular spot in the team. After leaving Reading at the end of the 2021-22 season, he announced his retirement and shifted his focus to real estate development. The Sun has reached out to Drinkwater for a response to the project, highlighting the interest in his transition from football to property development.Drinkwater's foray into property development reflects his desire to pursue new ventures and establish himself in a different field after his football career. The approval of his mansion project marks a significant step in his transition and showcases his vision for creating a luxurious and unique property in Alderley Edge.
